This Hep Cat chugs a clay pipe as the azure smoke coils out his bristling nostrils.

“Well you see.” He says. “When I was panning in the Qaddi the drones of the Xuluxi re-set my hearing nodes. Highly sensitive to start with, they were tweaked into an ultrasonic regime. What may be a sweet lavender whisper to you is a viscous, abrasive roar to by sunburned ears.”

He sipped his sweet black tea and continued.

“I developed a multi-limbed approach. A foot on the harmonium pump, one hand rubbing the chimes, the other on a pretty dulcimer with my mouth clamped around an ancient bamboo flute.

“But what of your spare foot? What did you do with that?” I meekly squeaked.

“Balance” he roared! “How do you propose I danced?” And with this he blew huge clouds of smoke from his nose, eyes and ears.

As the smoke snaked around me everything went black...
